ESPEC policy on new EU F-Gas regulations

The new F-Gas Regulation 2024/573, which came into effect on March 11, 2024, has prompted ESPEC to outline its stance from 2025 onwards.

According to the regulation, environmental test chambers now fall under a new equipment category called ‘self-contained refrigeration systems,’ subjecting them to a GWP limit of 150 starting in 2025. However, for now, exemptions are granted for products lacking safe alternative refrigerants. As no synthetic refrigerants with a GWP below 150 are currently available for environmental test chambers, this exemption applies to our products with temperatures down to -70°C. To address products with temperatures down to -40°C, ESPEC is actively developing solutions using CO2 as a natural refrigerant.

Our policy regarding the use of two types of refrigerant systems can be summarized as follows:

For products with temperatures down to -40°C:

In anticipation of the 2025 regulations, ESPEC is in the process of developing products utilizing CO2 as a natural refrigerant.

For products with temperatures down to -70°C:

For conventional cascade systems using R-449A and R23/R508A, safety is assured. Products using lower GWP refrigerant R473A are currently under development and will be released in due course.
